Embark on a (short) quest to learn about poetry! Take quizzes to test your knowledge. Pass all 7, and you may just unlock the bonus level... Update 11/29/23: 3.5k views! (Possible improvements to UI layout for poems soon!)
This is really cool!
Your attention to detail in the environments is really top-notch. Especially in the concrete poems section – I love the pictures! I really like your use of tokens for each quiz – that must have taken a while to work out! Also, I have my AP lit test in two days, so this was a really nice review!
Great work! I can’t wait to see the bonus level!
Thank you so much! I made it for my English class, but I’m glad it can help others as well! 😀
This is the best game I’ve played on this website. It was actually good!
Thank you so much!
most of the games on this website are bad…
Nice
The map is so beautiful! I’m so inspired! This is so amazing!!!
Thank you so much! I love it when I can inspire someone else. I’m currently working on a much larger game with a highly detailed map similar to this one, so stay tuned for that!
i could’ve left at any moment but i wanted to unlock the bonus level..
wait, no sorry, I don’t think that was fair, you probably just made it for like, older people than me…
I find the poems in the bonus level are really dull, and I can’t figure out what they meant, they also are really long…
Hello!
I actually have some backstory on why the bonus level is all Edgar Allen Poe-themed. So my English teacher (at the time, I made this two years ago) was and still is a huge fan of Edgar Allen Poe’s poetry and short stories. I made this game to help my class out with remembering different types of poems and such, so I thought I’d make the bonus level to honor my teacher. However, I understand Poe’s writing isn’t for everyone.
If you find the bonus level disappointing, I apologize! It may look a bit rushed, and that’s because it was. But, as for the poetry itself, know there’s a reason I put it there.
Thanks for your comment, and thank you Mr. Page for being a great English teacher!

i got softlocked right as i started the poetry stuff, that old lady in the game is EVIL!!!! but, cool concept!
Softlocked how? If it’s a bug, please describe it when you get the chance so I can fix it. And thank you!!
i talked to the old lady who starts your adventure, and i was getting teleported, but instead of what was supposed happen happening, my character just standed there. i waited for a few minutes and nothing happened. if this does turn out to be a bug, please fix it so i can play the game!
Don’t worry, that isn’t a bug, unless your character was actually unable to move. After the dialogue with the librarian, you’re supposed to interact with any one of the lecterns (books) and then you’ll be prompted to teleport to the levels. I hope this clears things up.
uh… i couldn’t move. all i could do was swing my sword! so, yeah.
That’s strange! I’ll try to replicate the bug and get back to you. Thanks for letting me know so I can get this fixed 🙂
thanks! i’ll play the game when the bug is fixed!
I didn’t run into any issues on my end. Were you playing on mobile? Also, you said the swing weapon ability was active, right? It might be an issue with the site itself, not my game, so you might want to reload and try again. If it’s still an issue, I’ll report the bug to DeWitters.
great! oh and also i play on PC.
it worked! i just had to “skip the tutorial”! (‘_-) (get the reference) and i could play!
That’s good to hear! I hope you enjoyed the game 😀
yeah! i haven’t fully played it yet, but i’ll try the challenges and if i pass them all, i will try to beat it (emphasis on the “try”) thanks for your help! this game is pretty unique compared to most games i’ve played, so its great to play it!
(btw when i say beat it i mean the bonus challenge)
i just finished the game! i didn’t unlock the special level, but i’ll try again soon! i loved the designs of the areas, but the japanese area and the concrete area stand out above them all! nice spriting for the concrete area!
I love this game! Keep up the amazing work!
You definitely gave me inspiration to work on my own educational games. The way you taught your students poetry by way of using RPGs is very creative, it sticks to the mind! I wish they could implement that technique in my country. The students would face little to no struggles that way, especially if English is their second or third language!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I also have a historical educational game called Telesilla of Argos if you’re interested in more. If there’s enough demand I would even consider Poetry Adventure 2, but I don’t have time at the moment.
how to save the point of quiz?
Sorry for the late response! Your score on quizzes is automatically saved, so if you get 3 out of 3 it’ll count towards unlocking the bonus level.
are you able to get a tally of how many points each player that plays this game gets? I want to use something similar to this and wanted to know if I can get a score at the end? im new to this and I loved your concept
Thank you for the comment! Are you referring to displaying a player score at the end? It’s possible but a little tedious depending on how many points you’re trying to give.
To give a hero points, the code is
hero number of “points” increases with 1
What I did to allow the bonus level to be unlocked was to have separate points for each quiz, with variables like “termpoints”. Each time the player answered a question correctly, they would receive one point. At the end of the quiz, the code checks for the number of points the hero has, in nested if/else statements, like the following:
if hero number of “termpoints” = 3
professor says “you passed!”
hero number of “points” increases with 1
else
if hero number of “termpoints” = 2
professor says “You got 2 out of three. try again.”
and so on
The message didn’t keep the indents sadly, but note that after any if/else you need indents
This code gives an overarching point for the bonus level so that when a player passes all 7 quizzes, they will have 7 points and can enter the bonus level! Hope this makes sense! If you have any further questions you can also find me on the RPG Playground discord server.
Hello RandomNPC. I tried your game and it’s amazing! Just wondering, is it possible to use this code to show the score at the end of quiz just like in the game?
Hello! I’m glad you enjoyed the game. The way coding on RPG Playground works has changed since I made this comment, but the names of the actions are still the same! Just make sure they’re nested properly.
I see. Thank you for the reply. I want to make an educational game using this ‘quizzes’ concept. So, I’ve used this code to display player’s score at the end of the quiz but it didn’t work. There might be a mistake in my code. I placed the code ‘hero number of “points” increases with 1’ for every correct answer. Then, the statement ‘if hero number “points” = 3’ didn’t detect the score 🙁 Can you help me?
Hehe. I figured it out! Thanks!
