You live in a small, peaceful town with your friends. You go out to play with them but the day does not end as it normally would and suddenly you find yourself dealing with the supernatural. Will you be able to stop these odd occurrences or will you too become a victim of them? (Estimated time to complete: 2 hours and yes that colon in the title is intentional)
Hi, I just finished this game and I love it! I like how the characters are written. I got to know their personality and personal conflicts and it made the story more interesting. Great job!
Heya, thank you for playing and the swift feedback, I greatly appreciate it and am glad that you enjoyed playing!
*SPOILERS AHEAD!*
Great game idea! I like the idea you can sometimes decide what you want to do and also like the hide and seek scene in your game.
There is a runtime bug in your game, which may your game crash:
If you follow Charlotte in the cavern and (after finding Karishma there) decide to have a look where Faye just went, the cut-scene will start again and the game will freeze afterwards.
I also noticed that you can buy a watermelon for the foreigner. If you talk again to the foreigner afterwards the cut-scene also will repeat.
Heya Marby, I’m glad that you enjoyed the game and appreciate the spoiler warning for anyone who might play the game in the future. Thank you for letting me know, I’ll revise those parts. It is odd that I didn’t come across this while testing, a friend of mine had similar issues that hadn’t occurred when I tested the game but then another tester found that those parts work just fine. I’m not sure why this is the case but I will take a closer look at it for sure, thank you!
Yes, if you make more complex games, you can play them over and over and nevertheless there might be a bug left. I only know this too well regarding my own project.
I experienced, that the screenplay editor of RPG Playground is a little hard to handle. So I’m using Notepad++ and just copy my screenplay back to the actors. Your game idea goes deeper and that mean actors could say other things if you talk to them later on. For my project I use a little trick for implementing this:
Since we have no “Exit”-command for our screenplay yet, I use a token “message handled”. First, I always let the hero “lose” that token. After that, I have many blocks of separate screenplay. Every block first checks for the “message handled”-token and only executes, if it is not available. After that I check for every block other tokens in order to determine, if the block has to be executed. If a block executes I set the “message handled”-token, which prevents the execution of the following blocks. With this technique, I have some kind of “Exit”-command even if it is not yet there. Use it and you can create incredible complex screenplay without losing the understanding, what it actually does.
Very true, very true indeed. Ah I see, that’s really smart actually, thank you for sharing this! I may not implement it in the next game, as it’s already in development but for the game after that, when I can start from scratch, I certainly will.
Your welcome. 🙂
I myself also came up later on with this in my game. At some point my screenplay started to become that complex, I just needed something like this. This technique also prevents your screenplay from having too deep indentations. I’m not using it for every actor, but since the actors, who have it always “lose” the “message handled”-token first, it doesn’t matter if you decide to use this technique also for a almost completed game at the very end. It won’t make any difference for your programming strategy and therefore completely is up to you.
Heya, I went over the areas you mentioned again and it should be fixed now, thank you again for pointing those errors out! I wouldn’t want players getting stuck because of an oversight on my part after all.
LOVE IT!!! BEST GAME ONRPG PLAYFGROUND!!!! AND THE BEST GAME YOU’VE EVER MADE!!!
But, I can’t finish it. I can’t find the portal to return back home
Heya Phil, thank you very much for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed what you managed to play! I haven’t heard of any issues in regards to the portal in question before but I would like to double check anyway. If you could please let me know where you are/were at, that would be great. Story wise and location wise that is, since some areas do repeat with alterations depending on what has happened in the story. If you don’t remember, no worries, I’ll just test the game tomorrow to see if there are any issues I oversaw but please let me know if you do.
Wonderful game! *SPOILER ALERT*
Really enjoyed Vincent’s arc, and was absolutely MIND BLOWN by the following mechanic that you added at the beginning. Brilliant work, absolutey genius, very impressive. A nice mix of combat and storytelling, the aspect of time and memory was good. You do feel a sense of longing when you return to the area where all the kids meet after the time skip and again at the end, knowing that even if you complete your quest successfully, things will never be the same again.
Great game! Great addition to the Re: series, looking forward to playing another!
Heya Goat, thank you for the positive feedback and I am pleased you enjoyed the following mechanic! I hope to use it again in a future game, perhaps to allow for a sort of pet that walks with you. In any case, I’m glad you enjoyed playing and I’d love to hear your thoughts on other games, as you did mention that you intend on playing more. Have a good one and thank you once again for taking the time to play and comment!
I didn’t get past the dragon part after dying to a fireball, but the game was amazing. This is a very heartfelt game and I loved it a lot
Heya Omesta, thanks for playing and the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the part you managed to play
I noticed that this game was made before the update, and that all the health potions in the game only heal 10 hp. I am just letting you know in case its not intentional
Ah I didn’t know this applied to games made before the update, that’s very good to know, thank you for pointing that out! I’ll get on making adjustments shortly
I played through the entire thing. And this, this is a game.
Glad to hear you finished all of it, I hope you enjoyed! I believe I fixed the healing potions by the way, thank you for pointing that out again
I love this game! Even my fortnite loving nephew played an enjoyed it.best game ever
